Parking Garage Lighting
Photos:
The city of Boulder wanted to improve the lighting in a dark and unevenly lit six-level downtown parking garage at Eleventh and Spruce Streets. The perimeter walls were dark and signage was difficult to read in the 120,000-square-foot garage.
The city chose to light the deck with LED lights made by BetaLED, retrofitting the deck with THE EDGE luminaires. In all, 337 metal halide lights were replaced by 337 LED lights.
As a result, the city improved visibility and safety in the parking structure while reducing energy consumption.
Facts about the Installation:
- Energy consumption was reduced in the remodeled areas from 70,000 Watts under the previous metal halide lights to 32,000 Watts with the new LED lights.
- An approximate 50 percent energy savings is achieved at a total cost savings of $2.66 per hour when all of the LED lights are on.
- The city expects to save at least $15,000 annually on energy costs for the parking structure.
