“The economic benefits for municipalities to invest in LEDs are clear – they save energy, reduce environmental impact and improve the quality of light. As leaders in one of America’s fastest growing cities, it’s our civic responsibility to invest in the future and ensure the highest possible quality of life and safety for our citizens in generations to come,” stated Charles Meeker, Raleigh mayor. “We believe that the cost savings and benefits of LED lighting are real and achievable today.”

Project highlights:

  • Installed 23 LED streetlights on public streets surrounding the Raleigh Convention Center and in the underground Convention Center Parking Deck
  • Raleigh signed an order with Wisconsin-based Beta LED for over 500 high-efficiency LED luminaires for their 365,000 square foot underground parking garage on the campus of their new convention center.
  • The City of Raleigh estimates that 30 percent of its energy costs are for lighting. The enormous range of lighting needs -- including streetlights, parking garage lighting, facility and park lighting offers LEDs an expansive testing ground.
