Each day, tens of thousands of pilgrims travel to the Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirupati, India. Tirupati is one of India’s important pilgrimage centers, serving as a major economical and education hub. And now, more than 140 LED streetlights better light two of the city’s busiest roads.

“Devendra Talkies and Tilak represent two of our city’s most highly trafficked roads, making proper illumination is essential,” said P. Mohan Reddy, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Tirupati. “With thousands of people enjoying our city each day, LED lighting provided a way to reduce costs associated with the energy use and maintenance of illuminated roadways.”

Avni Energy Solutions installed 72 Watt LED street lights, featuring Cree XLamp® LEDs, and estimates energy savings of more than 70 percent compared to traditional sodium vapor street lighting. Tirupati Municipal Corporation estimates a monthly savings of 6,187 units of electricity, which is equivalent to 288,000 Indian Rupee a year or 6,500 USD annually. As one of India’s important pilgrimage centers and a major economical and education hub in the southern region of Andhra Pradesh, Tripuati selected LED lighting to address escalating infrastructure costs.

Avni Energy Solution Pvt. Ltd, a Tirupati-based company, supplied and installed energy-efficient LED street lights along the city’s main thoroughfares. Tirupati is home to the Venkateswara Swamy temple, which hosts between 50,000 and 100,000 pilgrims each day. The Venkateswara Swamy temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara and is located about 10 km north west of Tirupati in the hallowed Tirumala hills. One of the most important pilgrimage centers in India, the temple draws millions of pilgrims and is one of the busiest pilgrimage centers in the world.
