The lights are always on in the lobby of the Hilton Garden Inn Nashville/Smyrna. But, on the bright side, the lights are consuming less energy than ever before. That’s because the hotel recently replaced 65-watt incandescent lights with 10.5-watt Cree CR6™ LED downlights.

This Tennessee hotel hired EcoGreenHotel to perform an energy efficiency analysis and make recommendations for energy efficiency improvements. EcoGreenHotel president Scott Parisi said he recommended switching to Cree LED lights because of the energy savings, ease of installation and dimming ability.

“The aesthetic enhancement that came along with the energy saving install was wonderful,” Scott said.

The CR6 LED downlight is a direct replacement for a 65 watt 6-inch incandescent downlight and is dimmable to 5 percent with most standard incandescent dimmers. Delivering 575 lumens and using just 10.5 Watts, it’s designed to last 50,000 hours and features a 5-year warranty.

“(The Cree CR6) is by far the smoothest dimming capability compared to other LED bulbs, and they are surprising easy to install, we were able to knock out the whole installation in 24 hours,” Scott said.

Facts About the Installation:

  • A total of 134 65-watt incandescent lights in the lobby were replaced with 134 10.5-watt Cree CR6 LED downlights.
  • The switch to LED lighting in the lobby, banquet and meeting rooms are expected to save an estimated $4,618 per year on energy costs.
  • The 50,000 hour lifetime means the hotel maintenance crew could go nearly six years without having to replace a light.
