The prestigious Ringling Bridge in Sarasota, Florida is looking even better these days thanks to new LED lighting.

In collaboration with Siemens Building Technologies, an energy service provider, Sunovia Energy Technologies replaced almost 200 street lights with energy-efficient LED streetlights to reduce the City of Sarasota’s energy consumption and enhance the downtown and tourist areas as part of a larger performance contract funded through a federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.

Sunovia replaced 98 antiquated 205-watt and 185-watt metal halide street lights along the 3,800-foot long fixed-span Ringling Bridge Causeway for an energy savings of 70 percent. Additionally, 84 24-watt EvoLucia fixtures replaced the 175-watt metal halide flood lights at St. Armands Circle, resulting in an energy savings of more than 85 percent. The LED fixtures are powered by Cree’s XLamp XP-G LEDs.

Sunovia co-founder Craig Hall is thrilled that the City of Sarasota has selected the company’s EvoLucia brand LED cobra head fixtures to illuminate the prestigious Ringling Bridge.

“Thousands of drivers, walkers, joggers, and bikers travel the Ringling Bridge every week, many after dark or early mornings,” Craig said. “In addition to the 70 percent energy savings that our LED fixtures provide, these travelers will experience the increased safety and security that is provided by our award winning lights.”

This installation, in addition to others throughout Sarasota, resulted in the City saving more than $100,000 per month in energy costs.
